Publication Title:

Matrix Stiffness Modulates 3D Spheroid Sorting and Burst-like Collective Migration

Advanced BioMatrix Products Used:

RatCol® - Rat Tail Type I Collagen, 4 mg/ml

Collagen eBrochure

How the products were used:

Researchers created a collagen/alginate hydrogel for embedding spheroids. The stiffness of the hydrogel was able to be mechanically tuned via chemical crosslinking.

Reducing the substrate stiffness triggers a collective fluidization of cell motion.

Article Conclusion:

The findings support a model where matrix stiffness modulates 3D spheroid sorting and unjamming in an adhesion-dependent manner, providing insights into the mechanisms of cell sorting and migration in the primary tumor and toward distant metastatic sites.
