Publication Title:

A Next-Generation 3D Tissue-Engineered Model of the Human Brain Microvasculature to Study the Blood-Brain Barrier

Advanced BioMatrix Products Used:

Heprasil® Thiolated Hyaluronic Acid + Thiolated Heparin

HyStem eBrochure

How the products were used:

Heprasil® was used to help with the endotheliazation of 3D-Printed microvessels.

PEGDA/GelMA mixture bioinks were printed on the Cellink Lumen X printer. Constructs were coated with Heprasil®, a thiolated hyaluronic acid/thiolated heparin mixture.

The construct was then cellularized with primary human brain microvascular endothelial cells and pericytes.

Article Conclusion:

The group has concluded that "constructs are validated for complete endothelialization with viability dyes prior to functional assessments that include barrier integrity (permeability) and immune-endothelial interactions. This MPS has applications for the study of novel therapeutics, toxins, and elucidating mechanisms of pathophysiology."
